The Hollywood Dell Fire Safety Committee meets online on the last Wednesday of each month, and is dedicated to preparing our neighborhood to survive wildfires. Email firesafety@hollywooddell.com if you’d like to join us!
We will have a booth at the HDCA Block Party on June 21, 2025, and at the MySafeLA Wildfire Safety Fair on June 22.
Firewise USA
The Hollywood Dell has been recognized as an official Firewise USA site. With the help of MySafeLA, we have completed a Firewise assessment of the neighborhood, and submitted a 3-year wildfire action plan. This is a program created by the National Fire Prevention Agency, and our Firewise certification entitles anyone in the neighborhood to request a discount on home insurance.
Home Ignition Zone
Things we can do to defend our neighborhood from wildfire:
- Home Hardening – Class A roof, double-paned windows, leaf-free gutters, ember screens over vents, …
- Defensible Space – Pruning and clearing the 0-5 foot “Zone Zero” radius around the home, moving firewood and flammable furniture away Zone Zero, and replacing wooden fences, gates, or other structures in direct contact with the home. Note that a California executive order on ‘ember resistant zone zero’ will take effect at the end of 2025, requiring certain not-yet-settled measures for all homes in high fire risk areas.
An assessment of your home’s ignition risks can help identify the most cost-effective steps to protect your home from wildfire.
You can contact the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains or MySafeLA to request a free home assessment, use the Faura or Rhino self-assessment survey apps, or take the free online “Reducing Wildfire Risk” training provided by the National Fire Prevention Agency.
MySafe:LA
Local Nonprofit MySafe:LA has a great website, a podcast, and a monthly virtual “Town Hall” meeting, full of useful info about all the many things underway to prepare LA to survive the next wildfire.
Here’s a helpful snippet from their page on Fireworks:
There are several safe and secure methods for reporting fireworks in Los Angeles. These include:
Use the MyLA311 smartphone app. It’s free and available here: www.lacity.org/MyLA311
The LAPD has an online fireworks form that you may fill out:
The form may be found at: https://complaint.lacity.org/Complaint/fireworks
IMPORTANT: Do not dial 9-1-1 unless you see someone being injured or at risk of immediate injury, or a fire or other emergency.
